The PlayStation 5 Pro: Is There Actually Anything New?

PlayStation 5 Pro

After much waiting, we were finally given the PlayStation 5 Pro this year. When it was released, people had mixed reviews about it; some people said that they loved it, while a fraction of people said that there wasn’t anything new in it.

I didn’t pay attention to any of the comments until I finally got a PlayStation 5 Pro for a more hands-on experience. I’ve used the console to my heart’s content, enough for me to write about everything new in the console. Here’s everything that you need to know.

An Improved GPU

Among all the things that I noticed in the PS5 Pro, the first thing was an improved GPU. I always pay close attention to the graphics whenever I play my favorite games, such as Spider-Man 2 and God of War Ragnarok. I rarely play my games without tweaking the settings to “Performance Mode,” which amps up all the graphical settings.

With PS5 Pro, gameplay and graphical processing is very smooth. I read the specs and found that the PS5 Pro’s GPU has 67% more compute units and 28% faster memory. This results in a 45% faster performance than the standard PlayStation 5 or PlayStation 5 Slim.

Improved Ray Tracing

When I played Spider-Man 2 on my PS5 Pro, I was taken aback. The ray tracing was so immersive that I actually felt like I was in the game. Even the puddles in the streets gave accurate reflections of the characters, making the game as realistic as it could be.

According to Sony, the PS5 Pro has advanced ray tracing, which allows the game to produce more realistic lighting and in-detail reflections. You can only experience it if you get a PS5!

PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR)

While there’s an improved GPU and better ray tracing, Sony has further enhanced the graphics through the use of PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR), which is driven entirely by Artificial Intelligence (AI).

This AI technology upscales the graphics so that all the games you play look even sharper when you play them at higher resolutions. To get the most out of your PS5, you can utilize the GPU at the highest settings along with better ray tracing and use the PSSR to give you the best graphics you have ever seen!

An Improved Wi-Fi Chip

Graphics aren’t the only thing that Sony paid attention to, they also enhanced the Wi-Fi connectivity of the PS5 Pro. The console now comes with integrated Wi-Fi 7 technology, which gives you lightning-fast internet speed if you connect it to a Wi-Fi 7-compatible router.

However, connecting to a Wi-Fi 7 router isn’t the only thing that you’ll need to do. You’ll also need a superfast internet connection to get the best possible internet speeds. I’ve connected my PS5 Pro to the Xfinity Internet connection along with a Wi-Fi 7 router by Asus, and I’ll have you know that all my games download in a jiffy now!

So integrating the Wi-Fi 7 technology into the PS5 Pro was a leap forward to ensure a seamless gaming experience, especially when it comes to online gaming.

Greater Storage Space

There is no doubt that the PS5 Pro is intended for hardcore gamers, provided the immaculate storage space that it offers. The PS5 Pro packs a staggering 2TB of SSD storage, which not only gives you lightning-fast load times but is enough for you to store a lot of games on your console.

The standard model of the PS5 offers 825GB storage, while the Slim comes with a 1TB SSD. You can see how the PS5 Pro leaped forward by incorporating 2TB of SSD storage, giving you ample room to store installed games and save your captured media, such as screenshots from games and all your saved files!

More RAM

The PS5 Pro has 2GB more RAM as compared to the standard PS5 and the PS5 Slim. The RAM temporarily stores game data for easier access and faster gameplay. Greater RAM ensures more system responsiveness, and it also keeps your frame rates steady, making the game more appealing to play. If you run low on RAM, your games can take more time to load. This is why having more RAM ensures faster load times for seamless gameplay.

Here, you can see that the PlayStation made a very smart decision by increasing the RAM so that your games load as quickly as possible and also so that your game’s frame rates don’t drop as you play.

Some More Advice

To make the most out of your PS5 Pro, make sure that you pair it up with a good display. This could either be a 4K TV or monitor so that you can enjoy the enhanced graphics. Better yet, you can also consider getting an 8K display with at least a 144Hz refresh rate, so that your games graphically look PERFECT!
